I think it was yesterday he threw batting practice to Manny and Ortiz. He didnt give up any projected hits through like 50 some pitches and now every one in Red Sox camp is talkin Cy Young. First off, he's never thrown a ball in a major league game, and its not even the end of February yet.
he's being talked up for twenty wins when ill be suprised at 12 wins

We need to wait until the season I guess, but all of this talk about him gives me a headache. Let him face the Yankees a few times in New York and then we can talk about how good he is.

I agree with cubs, you just have to wait and see. Being good in Japan is one thing, but MLB is another which is why he came here in the first place right?

The thing is, if he didn't pitch lights out in the World Baseball Classic he wouldn't have been given near the numbers or have near the hype he does now. But thats just it, just like when someone tears it up during a contract year he gets a huge deal. But in baseball, in the starting rotation especially you have to be consistant or you chew up you're bullpen and have to face questions for the next 4 days. With that said, they guy has been pitching great in Japan for a few years and the talent over there is shooting up the charts, so he's bound to be, at worst, Hideo Nomo in his prime.

i think 15 is probly about right, and even if he struggles some and the ERA goes up during a few starts he still has a run producing machine of a line up that can get him off the hook and get him the win

The AL East is unrelenting. We will find out how good he is in a hurry. I think that speculating on number of wins at this point is a bit premature. It will be interesting to see how his arm will hold up (I think they pitch once every six days over once every five?).
YankeeNation, I think you have to differentiate the Boston media from both the players and the fans. I think the team is cautiously optimistic, and I think that the majority of the fan base (myself included) feel the same way. I am sure that the New York Post would be going through the same hysterics if he had joined the Yankees.
I was ticked that he went to Boston, because I think he's such a sweet pitcher. Now I'm going to have to hear about him every day from "Red Sox Nation."
I still think he'll be really good, even with all the hype surrounding him. I'll say a 3.5-3.8 ERA and 17 wins, and probably the Rookie of the Year.
He looked pretty good in his first ST start and I think Tim Kurkjan predicted him to go over 15 wins this year. The thing is, he probably wont be a complete bust, so even if he is half as good as people hype him to be, he will still be a heck of a pitcher.
Looked real real good in his opening start. Maybe its just me, but I've never seen a pitcher do jumping jacks in the middle of the first inning to get himself going.
